Mr. David Kusch, Principal

Mr. Kusch is our part-time Principal at Hosanna-Tabor School.  We share him with St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Farmington Hills, as he serves both our congregations with dedication and many years of experience.

Mr. Kusch was born in Saginaw, attended Lutheran grade schools, and graduated from Kalkaska High School in 1980.  He graduated with honors from Concordia College, Ann Arbor with his bachelor’s in English, history and speech/theater in 1984, involved with music, drama, journalism and student government during his college years.  Mr. Kusch has studied at Wesleyan University, St. Francis University, and Indiana-Purdue University in Indiana.  This past year he returned to Concordia to begin work on his Master’s of Science degree in Educational Leadership, focusing on school administration.

Mr. Kusch began his teaching career in 1985, filling a vacancy in seventh grade at Holy Cross Lutheran in Ft. Wayne.  He then moved across the street to Concordia Lutheran High School, serving for 16 years as English instructor and Drama Director.  During his time there he directed over 50 theatrical productions, was involved in the school accreditation process, and served as advisor to student council, National Honor Society, yearbook and resource room.

As Principal and member of St. Paul’s for seven years, Mr. Kusch has taught various classes, served as worship leader/liturgist for Sunday services, and directed the adult choir.  He is also a member of Board of Directors of the Lutheran High School Association.

In 1996, David married Raeann, who now works as a Financial Consultant and Regional Management Associate for Thrivent, serving congregations in metro-west Detroit.  David has three stepchildren – Rick Hart, 28, a college student; Tiffany Hart Herman, age 25, a homemaker; and Remington Hart, 23, a video editor for the ABC/NBC affiliate in Ft. Wayne.

Mr. Kusch has always been very active in his local congregation, community and state.  In his previous parishes he served as Elder, Vice-President and Youth Board Chairman.  In the Ft. Wayne community, he was President of the Scottish Cultural Society and a member of the American Red Cross Youth Advisory Council, and now he is a member of St. Andrew’s Society in Detroit.  On the state level, the Indiana State Thespian (Drama) Board claimed him as member for ten years, and he taught drama classes for summer camps in Northern Indiana.
